Dear LOCS Families-
Just two weeks ago, we shared the date, January 19, 2021, that we plan to return students to in-person learning.
As we approach winter break, we would like to share with you more details about those plans.
The plans were created with the goal of maintaining a safe, healthy environment and keeping students and staff in schools, with a consistent learning environment for the rest of the 2020-21 school year.
Based on the lessons learned from the November in-person period, where the significant amount of student and staff quarantines forced us back to remote learning, the LOCS Administration is working hard to limit the potential exposure within schools.
To accomplish this, we will follow a few basic tenets across all buildings:
- Breakfast and lunch will be provided on a “grab-and-go” basis to limit periods without masks while at school. This will take place at all levels.
- We will limit students and staff from potential exposure at the elementary level with fewer staff members interacting with multiple classes. At the secondary level, we will move forward in a hybrid setting to reduce the class sizes and number of students in the building each day.
The plans for each LOCS level/program, which include bus transportation available for all in-person students:
- Elementary School (shortened in-person/afternoon remote schedule)
- Morning
- The early start schools (Stadium Drive, Paint Creek, Webber) will attend in person from 8:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
- The late start schools (Carpenter, Orion Oaks, Blanche Sims) will attend in person from 9 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
- Students will be provided a grab-and-go lunch for that day and breakfast for the next day upon the midday dismissal
- Afternoon (remote)
- Specials courses and social-emotional lessons will be provided asynchronously (independent)
- Each Special Education student’s schedules will be determined by the IEP team and/or their Contingency Learning Plan
- Before/after care will be available (SACC), beginning January 19 with an additional charge for the afternoon session, due to the increased time period; Registration must be completed through the Early Childhood office.

The goal of the LOCS Administration is to return all students to in-person learning, five days a week, when it is appropriate. We will continue to assess the health and safety issues that this pandemic has created while assessing our ability to provide continuous operations for in-person learning. We wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday season.
Thank you for your patience, collaboration and understanding,
