WE NEED YOUR HELP!  Volunteers needed!

The circus is coming to Blanche Sims! This Wednesday, June 12 the entire school will participate in a Cirque Amongus circus project with a performance by all students at the end. We need a large number (120 in total) of volunteers (age 18 & up) for the full school day to help make this event possible. As a volunteer you will help the students learn circus skills such as juggling, acrobatics, tight-wire and trapeze and assist them in putting together the show. Due to space restrictions, we will not be able to accommodate visitors who are not volunteers on the day of this event. If you haven’t signed up yet and would like to, please e-mail Erica at

Get a jump start on school supplies for next year. Supply Kits can be ordered online at, account # 12740. Everything your student will need for next year is in a convenient box and will be delivered to Blanche Sims at the Teacher Meet & Greet in the fall. Orders are due by 6/21/19.

Important Message from Food Service

The Food Service Department would like to notify all parents and guardians that students will no longer be able to purchase food from the cafeteria without the proper funds.  The federal government which oversees the School Meals Program requires that all meal debts are collected and paid in full before the end of the school year. Your student’s meal account balance is available online by logging or by calling the Food Service Office at (248) 814-0201. Thank you for your understanding.

Summer Reading Extremely Important

Summer is a wonderful time of year for everyone; unfortunately, it can really be an obstacle to student growth, especially in reading.  As is the case with most skills, the old saying of “use it or lose it”, really rings true when it comes to reading.  As children learn the skill of reading, they often have what educators refer to as “the summer slide” during the long break.  In other words, significant gains made during the school year in reading are often lost due to the lack of reading during the summer.  So how do you keep kids reading at their best?  By reading!  Please help your children and us by finding a few good books to read during the summer.  It is critical that students continue working on the skills they learned during the school year during the summer.  The summer can be a great time to “dive into a good book!”  Try having your child read 20 minutes before bed each night.  The same is also true of math facts!!

2019 Summer Skills Sharpener Sign Up Soon!

Lake Orion’s Elementary Skills Sharpener Program is designed to keep skills sharp over the summer and to limit summer learning loss. Students will be engaged in a variety of fun activities as an extension of the curriculum from their recently completed grade.  Please consider having your child attend.

Let’s Golf for a Great Cause

The LOEF (Lake Orion Educational Foundation) is once again sponsoring its Annual Golf Outing Fundraiser to support education in the Lake Orion Community Schools.  This year’s outing will take place at Devils Ridge Golf Club on June 25.  All money raised goes directly to our classrooms in the form of grants to support instruction.  Please consider being a sponsor or participant in this fun event!
