7 Habits of Happy Kids and Growth Mindset

Students standing in classroom

The 7 Habits of Happy Kids takes aspects from the popular book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and adapts it to apply to elementary school age kids. At Blanche Sims Elementary, we encourage students to adopt these habits, to create a culture of success, leadership, and happiness in our own school community. The goal is to foster leadership potential in each and every student to create a better school environment.

In addition to the 7 Habits, the teachers at Blanche Sims Elementary encourage students to have a growth mindset. Once students begin to understand that learning can rewire the brain and increase their intelligence, they often become more interested in learning and less afraid to try new things. In other words, they develop a growth mindset. Educators and parents can help students develop a growth mindset by teaching these five stances: optimism, persistence, flexibility, resilience, and empathy. These stances are seamlessly incorporated into the 7 Habits of Happy Kids by the Blanche Sims staff to further enhance the climate of our school environment.
