Kindergarten 2025-26

You and your child will receive a letter from your new teacher introducing themselves once they have been assigned. This letter will come in late August. If you do not receive one, please call the Carpenter office at 248-391-3500.

Our PTC offers the opportunity to get your supplies from SchoolKitz.com. All you have to do is go through the online steps, and your child’s supplies will be delivered to your child’s classroom. You will also be able to access the kindergarten supply lists by visiting the Carpenter webpage found on the Lake Orion Community Schools website. They will be uploaded over the summer at some point. A list will also be mailed to you as soon as your child’s teacher has been assigned.

You will receive your bus information in the mail before school begins. It will tell you your route numbers as well as the pick up and drop off times. If you don’t receive this information, please call the transportation department at 248-391-5455.

We house a Latch Key DK-5 program in our cafeteria for before and after school care. Space is limited. Please call Lake Orion’s Early Childhood Department at 248-693-5439 for more details.

Yes, kindergarteners eat a mid-morning snack daily. This snack is provided from home, and we encourage healthy choices. Classrooms are nut free if there are allergies. Please look for communication from your child’s teacher.

Your child has the option to bring a lunch from home or purchase a lunch from the school daily. A lunch menu will be sent home at the beginning of the year so that you are aware of the daily choices. If you choose to buy lunch, you can set up an online account through the Food Service Department (248-814-0202). You can deposit money into this account online or send in cash with your child.

All Lake Orion Community Schools elementary schools use Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop. This format allows us to quickly instruct the whole class on something everyone could benefit from and then children have the opportunity to read and write independently while the teachers meet with small groups or individual children. We recognize that kindergarteners come to us at all different levels; some are learning their letters and some are already reading words. Each child receives instruction at a level that is developmentally appropriate for him/her. We are also lucky enough to have a Reading Interventionist, Mrs. Magnus, who is devoted solely to kindergarten. She provides assistance on specific skills with small groups of students.

All children go outside for recess (weather permitting) each day after lunch. There is also the option for additional recess time throughout the day at the discretion of the teacher. The children also participate in playtime each day in the classroom where they are given the opportunity to engage in imaginative play, interact with their friends, do art projects and build things,

All of the kindergarten classes are partnered with a 4th grade buddy class. We assign a 4th grader to each bus number, who will then deliver each group of kindergarteners to that specific bus.
