Credit Forward Virtual Learning Registration

Virtual Learning is a method of receiving academic instruction in courses through an online learning environment.  Lake Orion Community Schools offers self-scheduled learning where students have some control over the time, location, and pace of their education.

Students should carefully consider the following unique qualities when investigating if an online class is right for them. These factors include:
  • Can your student create and maintain a study schedule without face-to-face interaction of a teacher?
  • Can your student self-advocate seeking help within a virtual setting?
  • Does your student possess the independent study habits needed to complete an entire course online without direct supervision?
  • Does your student have the reading, writing, math, and computer literacy skills to succeed in a class that is completely online?

LOCS uses the Imagine Learning Edgenuity program for credit recovery courses.

The program comprises the following key elements:

  • Rigorous, explicit instruction led by expert, on-screen teachers
  • Motivating, media-rich content
  • Interactive instructional tools
  • A wide range of tasks — from independent reading to guided online exploration
  • Formative, summative, and authentic assessments
  • Self-Paced Progress: We understand that every student has a unique learning pace. Hence, our credit recovery courses allow students to advance at a speed that aligns with their individual learning needs. This flexible structure empowers students to take control of their educational progress.
  • Flexibility: Recognizing the importance of accommodating diverse schedules, our program offers students the freedom to complete coursework from any location with internet access. They can conveniently work on their course remotely, except for specific assessments like unit tests and the final exam.
  • The highly qualified teacher providing content for the course will only be available remotely via email or possibly phone and will not be an LOCS employee.

Virtual Course Selection

A list of available courses can be found at: Edgenuity Course Catalog

It is strongly recommended that students do not plan on taking one semester of a course virtually and then one semester of a course traditionally.  For example, students should not take  Virtual Biology A and then take traditional Biology B in school.
