The Dragons are moving on -- many of them.

Lake Orion High School athletes made major waves in the past week with a number of impressive performances.

Wrestling -- All five wrestlers who reached the regionals moved on to the March 1-2 individual state finals at Ford Field. The five: sophomore Anthony Vellucci (145 pounds), senior Jayden Fisher (152), senior Dylan Wellbaum (171), junior Mason Slocum (285) and senior Hunter Chambers (285). Their paths through the regional were all impressive.

Competitive Cheer -- At the Feb. 16 regional hosted at Lake Orion, the Dragons finished a strong second place to advance to the regionals. Grand Blanc won the regional but the Dragons were less than one point behind, 783.06-782.30, nearly 35 points clear of the rest of the teams. They advance to the Hartland regional on Feb. 23.

Girls Bowling -- The girls bowling regionals will be held Feb. 22-23 in Flint and the Dragons will arrive a major threat after setting some state history recently. Lake Orion's team (Cheyenne Washington, Madison Ellington, Grace Tefend, Alex Boyer and Jessica Cannon) bowled the first two Baker 300 games in MHSAA competition. Even more impressive, the Dragons did it at separate facilities weeks apart.

Skiing -- The boys skiing team (Phillip Antal, Andreas Griesser, Noah Kelly, Nick Palatka, Glenn Schweihofer, Ryan Spencer, Ryan Stimac) qualified for the state finals by finishing third at the Feb. 13 regional at Pine Knob. They'll be joined at the state finals, on Feb. 25 at Schuss Mountain by senior Lindsey Thelen, who won the regional gold medal in both the slalom and giant slalom.
