Before a packed house of nearly 2,000 fans in the Lake Orion High School Fieldhouse on Friday, the LOHS boys basketball team fought to the final minutes of its Division I district final.
Pushing to a tie game with 1:34 to play, the Dragons had their last, best chance.
But Oxford surged the rest of the way, as the Wildcats claimed the MHSAA District title, 39-32, ending the Dragons’ season.
The Dragons (13-9) were led by senior center Nate Talbot’s 12 points, eight in the first half as LOHS took a 14-11 lead to the break.
But in the final minutes, after Talbot fouled out with 44 seconds remaining, the Dragons succumbed to Oxford, which scored the game’s final seven points following that 32-32 score with a minute and a half to play.
The Wildcats, led by Trey Townsend’s 14 points, improved to 22-1 and now will face Milford at Howell in Tuesday’s regional semifinal.
