LOHS Culinary Arts/Hospitality Student Wins $500 Scholarship

On March 3, OSTC-NE Culinary Arts/Hospitality student Greg Abbott competed against other students in a Skills USA competition, held at Henry Ford College. 

There he was challenged with cooking a meal from scratch within a two-hour timeframe. Students were provided with a new recipe and graded on cleanliness, process, presentation and taste.

Greg cooked Chicken Champignon complemented with green beans, parsnips, yellow squash, red pepper rice pilaf and a garden salad with mustard sherry vinaigrette.

His high-level performance earned him a $500 scholarship that he will use toward pursuing his career in culinary arts. In the fall he will attend either Baker College in Muskegon or the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York.
