Cheyenne Washington made Lake Orion High School and state of Michigan history.
Washington, a senior at LOHS, won the Division I bowl individual championship on Saturday, March 7, at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park.
Entering as the No. 9 seed, she cruised through the field, taking out No. 8 Noelle Phillips, of Traverse City West, No. 16 Kayla Mazure of L'Anse Creuse North, No. 4 Anna Maxwell of Westland John Glenn in the semifinal and No. 6 Lauren Slagter from Jenison in the championship match.
In the final, Washington won 392-354, rolling a 210 in the final game for the title.
Washington was locked in from the start of the individual rounds, rolling a 257 in her first game to get in the rhythm. He closest win was by 12 pins in the second round.
“I just wanted to keep making good shots and have fun,’’ Washington said to MHSAA.com for a story. “It really didn’t matter about the score. Instead of playing in, like the girls were playing, I had to play outside. I had to change balls because the boys pushed the oil to the outside, but that’s the line I like playing. It’s a great feeling.’’
