Ben Kirby
Mr. Kirby is in his fourth year serving Lake Orion Community Schools as the superintendent. He has successfully led the district’s approximately 7,000 learners during the pandemic and to a return to the inspirational instruction the Lake Orion Community expects.
Prior to becoming a Dragon, he was an assistant superintendent in South Lyon Community Schools. He also served as an associate superintendent, high school principal, middle school principal, teacher, and coach at Ionia Public Schools over a period of 24 years.
As the Superintendent, the district has created a strategic plan with student, staff, and community input that drives the daily work for him and his Team. He works to create partnerships with the community to benefit the students. He emphasizes the need to build relationships with students, staff, and community alike. The district continues to implement a $160 million dollar bond initiative to build smarter – safer- stronger schools. His emphasis on the “good things” that are happening in the district and community are highlighted in his podcasts.
Mr. Kirby earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Michigan State University, a master's in educational leadership from Western Michigan University, and an educational specialist degree in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University.
