Dear Dragons,
It has been such a treat to witness and be a part of all our staff-of-the-year celebrations in each of our buildings over the past several weeks. Hearing the stories and witnessing the impact members of our wonderful staff have on our students and each other is inspiring. Seeing and feeling the positive and unique cultures in each school community during these celebrations provides a glimpse to all why being a Dragon is special. The amazing piece is how each staff member in every school and department plays a pivotal role in creating and strengthening our school culture and daily success. When all those pieces and roles come together to operate as one, that is where excellence is achieved.
To all our Dragons – we see you and we appreciate you!

Dear Dragons,
Today we hit the halfway point of this school year with the end of the first semester. At this checkpoint in the year, I encourage everyone to create time for self-reflection. Acknowledge and celebrate all that you have accomplished during the first semester, while giving thanks and showing gratitude towards those who have helped you achieve your marks. Identify those areas and items where you would like to place more focus on in the second semester, and create a plan for how you will accomplish this. Do not hesitate to share this plan with a friend or colleague, as they can help be an accountability partner as needed. Lastly, know that each of you is helping to make a positive difference for so many.
Second semester – Dragon Country is ready!

Dear Dragons,
It is hard to believe that we are already at this juncture in the year! Our 2024-25 school year continues to hum along with great success (and great speed)! Each building, department, and staff member continues to amaze me with the amount of time, energy, and commitment poured into making each day a success for all our students.
What does the composition of our great Dragon staff look like to help create this success? Well recently, we asked some questions in a staff survey and found some impressive statistics to help give us just a small snapshot of the composition of our staff. Of the approximately 1,050 total staff members, 218 (over 20%) have more than 20 years of experience with LOCS. Of our 528 certified staff members, 80% have earned a Master’s Degree or higher. Over 40% of our staff live in Lake Orion, and almost 15% are alumni of Lake Orion. Each of us as staff members bring unique skill sets, experiences, and perspectives to our district. Creating the opportunities for student and staff success day in and day out is not an individual endeavor, but rather a collective collaboration of all. It is each ingredient we bring to the table that goes into making our recipe for the successful outcomes we enjoy. In our HR department, we truly value and respect each employee and recognize how much each of you contributes to that recipe.
I wanted to give a special shoutout to all our staff for the support being provided to many of our students and families this holiday season. Through collaboration with community organizations and the orchestrating of many initiatives within departments and buildings, it warms the heart to see this level of compassion and giving and to see the true spirit of the season in action throughout Lake Orion.
I hope we are all able to enjoy the time away from work over the break and that we take advantage to reflect on all the positives in our lives, while being present with family and friends. I believe the Grinch said it best with his toast, “To kindness and love, the things we need most.” So take some time for yourself, make memories, sneak in a nap or two, and enjoy doing what makes you smile during the break.
On behalf of the Human Resources Department, thank you for all you do, Dragon Nation. We appreciate you.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
