On Sept. 11, 2019, Lake Orion Community Schools' Bond Architect GMB A+E presented the conceptual plans for the renovated Carpenter Elementary school to the LOCS Board of Education.
A design team is working to create a new bus loop, a reconstructed office including a secure entrance, a new STEM lab, two additional classrooms and six additional small spaces for small group learning.
The site will also have redesigned parking for improved traffic flow, including a new bus loop.
The construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2020 and conclude in the fall of 2020.
- The casework in different areas of the building, the classroom layouts and locker locations were discussed. (Sept. 11)
- The monument in front of the building citing the initial construction will be preserved and placed in a prominent location near the updated school.
- The secure entrance is being designed so that visitors must be buzzed in after appearing on a camera and will receive a printed badge for identification in the office before they can enter the rest of the building.
- The design team is working to ensure multiple layers of security, a district standard across all elementary schools.
