On Sept. 11, 2019, Lake Orion Community Schools' Bond Architect GMB A+E presented the conceptual plans for the renovated Carpenter Elementary school to the LOCS Board of Education.
A design team is working to create a new bus loop, a reconstructed office including a secure entrance, a new STEM lab, two additional classrooms and six additional small spaces for small group learning.
The site will also have redesigned parking for improved traffic flow, including a new bus loop.
The construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2020 and conclude in the fall of 2020.
The office layout was discussed, including the design of the reception desk and the location of the visitor check-in kiosk.
Multiple options for the corridor floor patterns were presented with the colors appropriate to the existing school colors.
The finishes (carpeting and additional color spots) were determined as well as finding the unique brick types to fit with the various parts of Carpenter.
There was also an effort to match the interior doors and the outdoor bench seating was discussed. (November 6 Update)
