As presented to the LOCS Board of Education on March 25, 2026, the projects below are the reassessment of the significant projects by administration and architects following the February 28 Building Our Future Workshop.
Projects (6 year, approximately $198 million proposal)
On February 28, more than 80 individuals participated in the workshop to help LOCS prioritize projects for a future bond proposal.
Among those attending: community members, Board members, district administration, staff, students, and representatives from the LOCS architect firm and construction firm.
The objective for the day was to collaborate as a community, to prioritize school improvements to meet the needs of students, staff, and our greater community. (Slide 2)
We started with introductions and a table activity so people could become acquainted with who was at their table. (Slides 3-5)
The agenda was reviewed starting by looking back and reviewing our current facilities and their age. It was also noted that we have approximately 1.5 million square feet of building space to maintain. (Slides 6-8).
Our process for establishing the November 2025 bond proposal was shared. The process involved identifying stakeholder goals, useful lifetimes, forecasting future needs, and prioritizing projects. The process involved interviews with principals, district directors, and key staff members to understand various perspectives and needs.
The plan was updated in 2025, resulting in a 75-page document outlining all buildings and needs. (Slide 9).
Highlights from the follow-up community survey conducted after the failed November bond were shared. (Slides 10-17).
Some very basic school funding information was shared. The district is planning to provide much more detailed information regarding school funding and information as it specifically relates to LOCS soon. (Slides 18-25).
The master plan overview involved the major projects that were included in the November 2025 proposal. Each project was presented with the challenges the district is having and the proposed solution. (Slides 27-57).
Participants were then asked to prioritize the projects discussed during the workshop using individual worksheets and then group discussions took place at each table where participants had to come to agreement as to how to prioritize all the projects. Participants were also asked to consider the community feedback and perspectives from the survey when prioritizing the projects. Each table then shared their top three priorities and why these were their top priorities.
The data collected will now be used to inform the next bond proposal and ensure that the community's needs and priorities are addressed. This information will be further discussed and reviewed with administration and the Board of Education as we work to finalize a future bond proposal. The district will also be working to answer questions that we could not get to that day as well as provide more information as it relates to topics that our community is wanting to know more about.
It is LOCS' hope that our entire community will engage with the information the district shares. Questions can be directed to communications@lok12.org.
