School Finance Research Collaborative

The School Finance Research Collaborative is a Michigan school finance research project "to determine the cost of funding educational achievement for all Michigan students (PK-12)."

The Kellogg Foundation awarded a $100,000 grant to the Oakland Schools Education Foundation on June 30, 2016 to support the School Finance Research Project. The first step in the project was to analyze the 2016 state-commissioned adequacy study and make reports available to all about the strengths and weaknesses of that effort. Now there is a 15-member Project Steering and Technical Committee, an eight-member advisory committee and a statewide non-partisan and now 22-member Collaborative representing the private sector, K-12 educators, higher education, policy experts and including former legislators from across the state.

An RFP was issued in February 2017 for a new adequacy study "to determine the cost of funding educational achievement for all Michigan students (PK-12)" using multiple methodologies. It commenced on May 16, 2017 and is expected to complete its work and issue a report in mid-January 2018.

The SFRC reports were released in 2018 and updated in 2021.
