Early Middle College Students
This program is a 5-year program of study designed to allow the student to earn a high school diploma and one of the following:
60 transferable college credits
An Associate’s Degree
A professional certification
The Early Middle College Association Technical certificate
The right to participate in a registered apprenticeship.
To be eligible for EMC status, a student MUST enroll in the program prior to the start of their Junior Year.
Students enrolled in the EMC college courses may earn both high school and college credit for that course.
Students in an EMC program may choose to continue as a 13th year student in the college they are enrolled in. Students are still considered an LOCS student upon leaving high school, which allows for the district to continue to supplement tuition. Students MUST decide by DECEMBER of their Senior year in high school if they would like to continue as an EMC student in the program.
Once a student leaves the EMC program, they cannot reenter, but may chose a dual enrollment option.
Students will walk with their original high school graduating class but do not receive diploma until 13th year requirements have been met.
Dual Enrollment
Dual enrollment (DE) allows students in high school to take college classes while still enrolled in high school. Courses can count for both high school and college credit.
Dual Enrollment can occur at any time during a student’s high school career, but typically takes place during Junior and/or Senior year.
Dual Enrollment does not require students to be part of specific course of study or program.
Students enrolled in a DE course could be because of exhausting course options at the high school, or course availability.
Dual enrollment students DO NOT qualify for 13th year tuition assistance.
