Student Testing (State, AP, SAT/PSAT)
Testing Information
STANDARDIZED TESTING
PSAT : Components include Math and Evidence-Based Reading & Writing (including a Reading Test and Writing & Language Test). The PSAT is typically administered in October.
- Juniors: We recommend that all college-bound junior students take the PSAT. Juniors are automatically entered into the National Merit Scholarship Competition by taking the PSAT.
- Sophomores: High-achieving sophomore students are encouraged to take the PSAT in preparation for taking the PSAT again in their junior year (only juniors qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Competition).
ACT : Components include English, Math, Reading, and Science, with an optional Writing Test. Check with the colleges you are considering to see if they require an ACT score. Registration can be completed online.
SAT : Components include Math and Evidence-Based Reading & Writing (including a Reading Test and Writing & Language Test), with an optional Essay. Check with the colleges you are considering to see if they require an SAT score. The graduating class of 2016 and beyond will take the SAT in March as part of the MME (Michigan Merit Exam). This test is provided through Lake Orion High School and registration is completed for you.
Advanced Placement Testing : Advanced Placement offers students the opportunity to take college-level courses and exams. These courses allow students to potentially earn college credit, fulfill prerequisites for the first year in college, and give themselves an edge in the college admissions process.
