Re: 2027 Senior Portraits

Dear Parents/Guardians of LOHS Seniors,

• Senior portraits days were held LOHS will be held on August 11 from 1 - 5 p.m., and August 12 & 13 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the LOHS commons. These portraits do not need to be scheduled, they are taken on a walk-in basis.

• If you cannot make it on any of those days, you can schedule a senior portrait session with MyPic at the studio in Canterbury Village. You can schedule your appointment at MyPic Photography

• If you do not have a portrait taken by MyPic, we will include your Student ID picture from Student Registration.

Submission

• As the only option for a senior portrait is through MyPic, Scott Weiner, the photographer, will submit all of the senior portraits. He knows how to format the portraits for our purposes. Additionally, MyPic understands our specifications. Format • Senior pictures must be in color and will be printed in color. We will not use pictures that are black and white, sepia toned, or that use any color treatment.

• Note: Photos that do not meet the specifications, or that are not taken by MyPic Photography, will not be used in the yearbook. Instead, we will use the student’s Student ID photo.

Policy

• Please note the portrait guidelines regarding the LOHS dress code.

• Should you submit a photo that does not adhere to the current LOHS dress code, we will not include it in the yearbook, we will resort to the Student ID photo taken during Student Registration. If that photo does not meet the LOHS dress code, the student will be “Not pictured.”

• Students can opt to have their photo omitted from the 2027 Dragon Yearbook – this means it will not be included, if the student turns in a signed Photo Omission form.

Cost

• A senior portrait package can be costly, and we recognize this. This is why MyPic has agreed to take Yearbook Pose only portraits free of cost. If you do not have your portrait taken by MyPic, the Student ID photo taken during student registration is acceptable. The lighting, resolution, and background are professional. You are not required to purchase a package; the Student ID photo is free. If you wish to use this picture for the yearbook, please dress appropriately during registration.

Yearbook Information

*BY INVITATION ONLY*

Cords indicating academic distinction will be handed out at Honors Night, at a spring date in the LOHS Auditorium. This event is by invitation only. GPA distinctions are as follows:

• Cum Laude
  • GPA of 3.3-3.699
  • Green and White cords
• Magna Cum Laude
  • GPA of 3.7 - 3.899
  • Silver Cords
• Summa Cum Laude
  • GPA of 3.9 - 4.0+
  • Gold Cords

NOTE: GPAs are determined at the end of 3rd term, and will not be rounded to the nearest 0.1.

Local Scholarship Presentations

Many local organizations, including all Lake Orion Community Schools elementary and middle schools, will announce their winners of scholarships at Honors Night. Students will be notified if they won a scholarship during Honors Rehearsal. This portion of the evening begins after a short intermission after all Cords have been handed out.

The 2025–26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA^®) form is now available! You can complete the form to apply for financial aid for attendance at college or career school between July 1, 2026, and June 30, 2027. For more information go to the LOCS FASFA page.

Local scholarship opportunities

State of Michigan

The Michigan Achievement Scholarship is a new state financial aid scholarship that began with 2023 graduates.  Scholarships are applicable for training programs, community colleges, private or public colleges and universities. More information is available on the state of Michigan website.
