October 22, 2020
Thank you for your patience as we maneuver between in-person and remote learning. As you are aware, the in–person and Dragon Virtual learning will begin with a phase in process (see table below) at the middle level on November 9, 2020 with all students attending every day beginning November 13, 2020. In-person students will attend from 7:55 am – 2:10 pm.
Potential Student Schedule Impacts
Approximately 20% of middle school families chose the Dragon Virtual option. We are working through schedule adjustments and teacher/team/class assignments in order to group the virtual students together and limit in-person class size as much as possible. These schedule adjustments and balancing could result in a student’s class schedule to change, or even perhaps result in the need for a student to change teams. There is also the potential for a Dragon Virtual student to be in a virtual class that is taught by another LOCS Middle School Teacher/Team. We are working hard to limit the number of students whose schedules will be impacted but want to be sure you know that there will be adjustments and balancing that will take place. New schedules will be directly emailed to parents/guardians via PowerSchool the week of November 2, 2020.
With the possible changes in the schedules, there needs to be a shift in our reporting of grades. Normally grades would be given at the end of each semester, but this year they will be given quarterly for all classes. The first quarter ends November 6, 2020 and the second quarter begins November 9, 2020. Students will start with second marking period grades on November 9, 2020. The first marking period grades will be complete and final on November 11, 2020. GPA, for this year, will be calculated using quarter grades. Thank you for your partnership as we work to meet the needs of students and families. Together we will ensure a successful 2020 – 2021 school year.
