Academics
Teaching and Learning Department
Educators in the Lake Orion Community Schools know the best way to prepare students for future success is to focus on the whole child. To accomplish this, we work together to address each student’s academic, emotional and developmental needs from pre-kindergarten through high school graduation.
The district supports our teachers’ efforts by offering a variety of innovative programs catered to student needs.
- Elementary Schools
- Each of the six neighborhood elementary schools features identical curriculum while meeting the unique needs of the students, families and neighborhoods they serve.
- Middle schools
- Use a team-concept approach that integrates the core curriculum with small teams of trained educators who collaborate daily and act as advocates for every student.
- STAR (Student Teacher Affective Relationships) program helps build a deeper rapport between students and their teachers.
- High School
- Lake Orion High School offers a modified block schedule which allows students to experience both 45- and 90-minute classes. LOHS offers 225 courses, plus another 11 at the Oakland Schools Technical Campus.
